In this continuation of the “Faith Alone” series, we examine Genesis 19:23-38: God's certain, visible, overwhelming judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah, raining down sulfur and fire, destroying everything and leaving desolation. Lot's wife looks back in longing for the world and becomes a pillar of salt, a warning against clinging to sin (Luke 17:32). Abraham witnesses the rising smoke like a furnace, foreshadowing final judgment. Lot, in fear, hides in a cave with his daughters, who sinfully get him drunk to preserve their line, resulting in Moab and Ammon. Yet God redeems even this depravity, as Moab's line leads to Ruth and ultimately Jesus.

Despite Lot's flaws, he is called righteous (2 Peter 2:7-8), rescued by grace alone amid judgment. The sermon culminates in a clear proclamation of the full Gospel: God's holiness and justice, humanity's total rebellion and inability to save itself, Christ's perfect life and substitutionary death bearing our wrath, justification by faith alone (turning from sin to trust in Jesus), the Holy Spirit's indwelling and sanctification, and Christ's return to judge the world. A call to reject false or incomplete gospels and cling to Christ alone.
