Paul begins the second half of the letter with a strong “therefore.” Because of everything God has already done for us in Christ, he urges the church to walk in a manner worthy of the calling they have received. That walk is marked by humility, gentleness, patience, and bearing with one another in love, while diligently keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
He grounds this unity in the sevenfold reality of one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all. At the same time Christ gives diverse gifts to each member according to His measure, so that the saints may be equipped for the work of ministry and the body may grow into maturity, speaking the truth in love and building itself up as every joint supplies what it has been given.
