Paul continues the call to walk worthy of our calling by commanding the church to be imitators of God as beloved children and to walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up as an offering and sacrifice to God. Sexual immorality, impurity, and greed must not even be named among the saints, nor filthiness, foolish talk, or coarse jesting, but rather the giving of thanks. Those who make a practice of these things have no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Formerly we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. Therefore we are to walk as children of light, producing the fruit of goodness, righteousness, and truth, while refusing to participate in the unfruitful works of darkness and instead exposing them. We are to look carefully how we walk, not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil, understanding what the will of the Lord is, and being filled with the Spirit rather than with wine. The Spirit-filled life is marked by speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and being subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
