After years of waiting, God finally gives Abraham and Sarah their promised son Isaac. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, God commands Abraham to take his only son, the child through whom all the promises were to be fulfilled, and offer him as a burnt sacrifice. Abraham obeys without delay. He rises early, prepares the wood, and journeys three days with Isaac to the place God showed him.
As the father lays the wood on his son and raises the knife, one question hangs heavy: Do you truly believe the promise? Not just believe that God exists or that Jesus died on the cross, but believe so deeply that it shapes your obedience even when it makes no sense? This chapter presses that question through Abraham’s costly test of faith and God’s gracious provision of a substitute. A powerful reminder that genuine faith does not just know the promises. It trusts them enough to obey.
